For the most part, they are living in a single parent home. They are often financially struggling so do not have too many opportunities to get to know the world. This is the first year for this summer camp. Tahoe Sport Fishing went on a five hour fishing trip. Mo’s Original BBQ just asked when, where and for how many providing an evening meal. Tahoe Art Haus had them enjoy a movie and popcorn. Tom Meadows arranged to have six pilots and their planes for scenic flights. Kevin Stanley took his wakeboard boat to Emerald Bay. Project Discovery’s ropes course allowed the young men and women to overcome obstacles and bond together as a group.ĭustin Cardoza, Kris Buttenberg and Scott Sandy were mountain bike guides on the Flume Trail while Tahoe Light Photography took pictures. Nevada Department of Wildlife also helped. Scheels gave backpacks and Branded Screen printing and embroidery made a Freedom Hunters logo to go on the back packs.įC-13 provided kayaks, paddle boards and canoes.Ĭashman Equipment Co. Nevada National Guard provided tables and chairs. NAS from Fallon provided the tent for a dining hall. QD Construction provided vans and a support truck. We live in an amazing generous community. They had a list of Gold Stars Families and were able to contact 12 young men and women and invite them to the United States Coast Guard Station on the shore of Lake Tahoe for a week of summer He reached out to the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. He was an Eagle Scout doing well in school It was a shock to hear that the grandson ended his life at age 15.Ĭhris realized that these children live in pain so he began to think about what he could do to help. He was successful in the hunt! Chris kept in touch with the grandson. As veterans do, they reached out and invited the grandson to join them on the hunting trip. His son was killed in the war so he truly understands what the veterans need. Gary’s 11 year old grandson was at the ranch visiting his grandfather when Chris was there with the veterans. Gary Farwell, the owner of the Sage Chicken Ranch in Idaho, has offered his ranch as a destination for hunting, fishing and family fun. They provide 1,500 events annually for the veterans and their families. His 501C program helps wounded veterans and their families enjoy the outdoors, making new friends and finding new passions in their lives. On June 22, 12 young men and women ages 14-18 from Tennessee, New Jersey, Vermont, Nevada, Washington, Pennsylvania, Hawaii and California met at the Truckee Airport’s EAA building for a Young Eagles Scenic Flight over Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake and the Sierra Valley.
